Sport 4 Success
The Sport 4 Success is underway at the moment. Every Wednesday Holy Family and Colmcilles national schools come to Colaiste Choilm for “a bite to eat” in the school canteen with our resident chef Ann and they also do some English, Maths or Irish with out TY students followed by some P.E. in the school gym. This program is designed to ease the transition from primary to Secondary school using the medium of sport. Photos will be available soon.
Memorial Garden : “A Belief in Tomorrow”
The school recently set up the memorial garden behind the PE Hall to commemorate the end of the school’s Golden Jubilee. It’s at the back of the gym to mark where the Christian Brothers together with the class of ’67 [would have] walked on the 4/9/1967 when the school first opened. The garden is in the shape of a triangle which represents the three pillars of the school community which are the students, the parents and the teachers and [where] the triangle meets the large six foot high piece of granite sits a very special cross. The cross is the Edmund Rice cross.
Michael Dunne who worked on the garden was a part of the first class all the way back in ’67. And, of course, Mick Warren who is the Night Manager of the school was the Landscape Gardener. Mr. Neville and Mr. Foster were instrumental in setting up the memorial garden along with Mr Malone who also helped out with the garden.
